In this interactive session Stephen Miller and his colleague Kirsty Graydon will present in-depth analysis of the appeal cases which have shaped the way we understand the structure of the Equality Act.

One criticism of the Act is that it presents too many overlapping claim options. Claimants can be spoilt for choice and advisers need to choose carefully between the choices available.

Delegates will learn what features to watch for and how best to prepare for litigation in the Employment Tribunal on topics which are often the most complex and valuable for practitioners to handle.

The session will feature discussions on disability, sex, age and race as well as equal pay and a summary of the other protected characteristics.

The event begins at 2pm. Delegate registration is open from 1:30pm.

Stephen is accredited as a specialist in employment law and in discrimination law by The Law Society of Scotland. He advises on and represents clients in all areas of employment law from discrimination and disciplinary issues and executive exits to reorganisations, redundancies and equal pay issues.

Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession, in ranking him in its top band of specialists since 1999, has previously described Stephen as having "a good balance between knowing the law and presenting it in a sound and not over-stated way" as well as being "able and well-prepared" and "a leading player" in relation to his employment law expertise.

Kirsty has over four years of experience advising clients, both individuals and organisations, on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious Employment Law issues, most regularly in relation to Claims for Unfair / Constructive Dismissal; Complex discrimination based issues and claims; Disciplinary and Grievance matters; Redundancy procedures, and TUPE.

She also has advocacy experience in Employment Tribunals across Scotland, in England and in the Sheriff Court.
