Residential tenancy law continues to change, with provisions of the Housing (Scotland) Act 2025 being brought into force in stages and further changes taking effect during 2027. Alongside these developments, solicitors continue to deal with the everyday problems of rent increases and arrears, repairs, difficult tenancies and recovering possession.

This seminar will look at the current law and the changes now taking effect, together with the practical issues which commonly arise when advising landlords and tenants.

The seminar will consider:

  • Housing (Scotland) Act 2025 - where are we now?
  • Rent increases and challenges
  • Rent adjudication and the changes taking effect in 2027
  • Rent arrears and recovery
  • Repairs and the repairing standard
  • Damp and mould
  • Access for inspection and repairs
  • Joint tenancies and the new rules
  • Dealing with difficult or problematic tenancies
  • Bringing a private residential tenancy to an end
  • Grounds for eviction
  • Notices to leave and getting the procedure right
  • Reasonableness and recovery of possession
  • Preparing an application to the First-tier Tribunal
  • Evidence and common procedural problems
  • Defending possession applications
  • Wrongful termination
  • Changes still to come under the 2025 Act
