There’s much more to planning than the controversial developments mentioned in the media.

This seminar will provide a practical guide to key planning issues, presented jointly by Neil Collar, Partner and Head of Planning Law, and Victoria Lane, both of Brodies LLP.

It will be relevant to lawyers advising residential owner/ occupiers and businesses.

Their casestudies will include:

  • UPVC replacement windows in flats
  • Alterations to listed buildings
  • Holiday lettings
  • Working from home
  • Neighbour disputes
  • Rivers, canals and the sea
  • Marquees and other temporary uses
  • Roadside advertisements
  • Regularising unauthorised development
  • The event begins at 2pm. Delegate registration is open from 1:30pm.

Neil heads Brodies' planning team, which is top ranked by the legal directories in Scotland. He is a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute and is accredited as a specialist in planning law by the Law Society of Scotland. The RTPI’s “Planning” Magazine named him as one of the 100 individuals with the greatest influence over planning policy and decision-making in the UK (March 2013) – the only Scottish solicitor in private practice to be included.

He has over 20 years experience as a planning lawyer. His work spans all aspects of the planning process, planning applications, appeals and inquiries (including inquiry advocacy), court actions, planning issues in relation to land acquisition and disposal, compulsory purchase and compensation, listed buildings and conservation areas, and trees.

He regularly contributes to Brodies’ Planning Blog.

Victoria joined Brodies as a trainee in 2012 and qualified into the Planning team in July 2014. During her time at Brodies Victoria has worked on a broad spectrum of transactions, gaining experience of working for landowners, developers, local authorities and other public sector bodies.

Since joining the Planning team Victoria has worked on a variety of projects, including several wind farm appeals, acquisitions and funding transactions for retail and commercial developments and portfolios, a quarry planning permission appeal, four wind met mast appeals, several large scale housing appeals and a number of Section 75 and Section 96 agreements.
